The Precious Metals Workshop is Edinburgh’s leading independent workshop for goldsmiths, silversmiths, jewellers and jewellery hobbyists and enthusiasts. We are a creative safe space and welcome all these levels of makers. The PMW is a home to a family of makers who share their knowledge and skills while inspiring each other and benefiting from an artisan vibe within the workshop.

We have a main workshop and two studios to choose from with varying sized benches and costs to suit your needs and budget. Access to our workshops includes rental bench space and use of all our tools and facilities. Our makers in residence come from all walks of life and we have anywhere between 20 to 30 makers renting bench space.

We also run courses for all levels of skills, three terms every year, which includes access to a large range of tools and facilities necessary to create jewellery. Our courses are run by some of our makers in residence and often features visiting masters to add to the extensive range of what we offer for you to learn, whether it’s introductory ring making or advanced hand engraving, we have classes to suit everyone.

We operate several programs based on helping people start their own jewellery careers. The PMW was established in 2010 by Goldsmith Ian Nicholson and located in Edinburgh’s creative Out of the Blue Drill Hall, which has it’s own cafe open to the pulic on site.

The Precious Metals Workshop is proud to be affiliated with both Edinburgh Women’s Aid and Shakti Woman’s Aid
